There is such a variation of different things that a cleaning person in a factory, industrial, generating plant, and a manufacturing company, etc. will encounter as a contractor that it makes it hard to define the position itself. Industrial cleaning consists of getting dirty.
Pretty
much anywhere in an industrial building is dirty work, including the offices
which has dirt and grime from the inside floors tracked in constantly. There
are also risks that are involved, such as when cleaning around
the heavy machines, and around other things like lubricants, fiberglass, paint,
and there are even metal shavings.
Paul
Greenland, who is the Executive Vice President at the Aetna Building
Maintenance, in Springfield, Ohio, had this to say: “Since the environment
within industrial buildings are constantly getting dirty, they must also be constantly
cleaned up. It cannot be put off until the next day, like housework, for
instance.
The
clean-up must be immediately, for it puts employees at risk of being injured,
or even death.” There are some of the machinery used in manufacturing
facilities that are sensitive to the dirt and dust, meaning that it is
essential for them to be cleaned immediately. Since most manufacturers work
around the clock, it does not leave any down time for cleaning.
Manufacturers
take into consideration, the physical abilities of those who are hired on their
cleaning crews, whereas, they must have the physical ability to perform the
duties required. For instance, Leroy Likely, is a control environmental service
contractor at Johnson, who contracts out to the Lucent Technologies facility
located in Orlando, FL.
His
job position is to ensure that each new employee has the endurance it takes in
order to keep up with the demands of the facility. He stated that “If they are
able to stay up with me as I give them a tour of the facility, then I know they
are going to be able to do the work. Otherwise, they are likely to get tired
out too easily.”
Mr.
Likely, started working the industrial cleaners in teams, something the staff
recommended in order to give the workers morale a boost, and also to get more
efficiency from the staff, this helps in finding out who those are that just
don't like working in a team, and finding out who those are that will simply
refuse to work in a team.
“If
there should be a worker that is plum lazy, well, he gets to work a building
all by his lonesome.” Mr. Likely said, and “after a few days of going it alone,
that worker will generally approach Mr. Likely, saying he was ready to do some
hard work for a change.”
Another
area of concern for industrial cleaners is effective communication. “The customers’
needs change on a regular basis, even daily at times, and when they do we need
to be responsive,” stated Dan Draper, the President and Owner of the Nationwide
Janitorial Services, located in South Bend, Indiana. “Mr. Draper also said that
“All of the communication to and from our customers are performed through
emails. We will even go a step beyond our normal duties when there is something
they may not be aware of, such as issues with their lighting and/or plumbing
problems we have noticed, bringing it to their attention.”
If
Mr. Draper's staff should overlook something, the client is immediately
notified, being re-assured that Nationwide will take care of the problem right
away, usually, even before the customer knows about it.”
Generally,
the production lines in industrial settings are not equipped to come to a
sudden halt in case of problems, Mr. Draper's staff always treats any concerns
and/or questions as they were urgent. All calls are responded to by Mr. Draper
or one of his managers within a thirty-minute time period, 24/7.

The
backpack vacuums, and the solvent free de-greasers that they use in many other
markets, are the same thing that is used in industrial cleaning.
